Welcome back to school!

Dear Plumosa Families:

Welcome Back! The teachers and staff at Plumosa School of the Arts are very excited for the opening of the 2017-2018 school year. The Strategic Plan themes include effective and relevant instruction to meet the needs of all students by implementing instructional methods and best practices that will provide our students with customized instruction paired with engaging curriculum that will lead to future success.   We will continue to set high expectations and celebrate the academic success of all of Plumosa’s students. Academic success is achievable when all of our students follow the STAR citizenship guidelines that promote a responsible, respectful learning environment.

Plumosa School of the Arts will take advantage of the many digital opportunities to get information to our parents. We will have a school wide Remind text feature that will send messages and reminders to all of our parents’ cell phones.  We also encourage our parents to follow us on Twitter at @PlumosaSoa for additional information on events and highlights of student achievements.   As we strive to build a strong relationship between home and school we will continue to use the daily agenda and monthly calendars to keep all of our parents involved.

Parents, please make plans to attend two very important events at Plumosa.

Friday, August 11 is “Meet & Greet” from 8:30-10:30AM

This is a time where the parents and their child (no sibling please) can meet their child’s homeroom teacher, drop off school supplies, and complete mandatory forms.

Wednesday, September 13 is “Curriculum Night” from 6:00-8:00PM

Parents will gain an understanding of grade level expectations, receive important school information, as well as strategies to increase student achievement and ensure a successful school year.

Our school is committed to the safety and supervision of your children throughout the year; however safety policies are especially critical the first week of school as we remind the students of pick –up/ drop off procedures. Please know that all students will receive a colored wrist band to help us identify dismissal locations. Please try and have your students keep these bands on for the entire first week of school, if possible.

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL (August 14th) and BEYOND

To ensure the safety of all students, parents are not permitted to walk their child to class or to the cafeteria.

STUDENTS in GRADES 1 – 5
  • ALL Students in grades 1-5 will report to the cafeteria on the first day of school (August 14, 2017)

 

KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS (If your child is in Kindergarten, carefully read the section below)

  • Staggered Start
  • Kindergarten students will attend ONLY one day of the first three days of school (14th, 15th, 16th) Parents will be notified.
  • Kindergarten Staggered Start  Breakfast  (7:30 am to 8:00 am on the 14th, 15th, or 16th)
  • To ensure a smooth start for you and your kindergartener, we are inviting you and your child to come to the Media Center on your child’s staggered start day (the first day they report to school). Parents will be able to give their child a final hug and kiss, and then have breakfast (sponsored by the PTA).

 

All Kindergarten students report to school on Thursday, August 17th and go directly to class (even if he/she is eating breakfast). Teachers will take them to the cafeteria after checking in.
